The Asteroid No.4 is a San Francisco Bay Area psych/shoegaze band, originally from Philadelphia in the late 1990s. Over the past decade, the lineup has centered on Scott Vitt (vocals, guitar), Eric Harms (guitar), Matty Rhodes (bass, vocals), and drummer Mark Tarlton (formerly of Echodrone), who joined in 2020. Renowned for their hypnotic live shows, the band layers multi-textured guitars and reverb-drenched vocal harmonies over a steady, driving rhythm. Their prolific recording output—including their eleventh album, Tones of the Sparrow—has earned them a dedicated following in the underground psych scene, alongside numerous singles, EPs, digital rarities, and compilation appearances. Described as “a hypnotic hybrid of genres filtered through the kaleidoscope of psychedelia,” their sound spans shoegaze, jangly 12-string folk rock, Kosmische Musik, and even cosmic country-rock. The Asteroid No.4 remain faithful to their influences while continuously pushing the boundaries of psychedelic music.
